Here is a look at the tough levels of testing that the manufactures carry out to reach the EN12492 standard
‘A helmet complying to the mountaineering standard is impact tested with two 5kg strikers. A hemispherical striker is dropped from 2 metres onto the crown of the helmet and a flat striker from 500mm on to the front, rear or side by tilting the headform to 30°. In all cases, the transmitted force through the neck of the headform must not exceed 10kN.
Two penetration tests with a 3kg pointed striker are also performed within a 50mm radius of the helmet's crown without making contact with the headform.’
The manufacture JSP has really taken the time to make sure this safety helmet doesn’t just meet its required safety standard but greatly surpass them. Compared to some other manufactures this product is reaching great levels of protection more than the standard requires.
Reaching the safety standards of EN12492 is no easy task!
Unlike most safety helmets this product conforms to another standard – EN397 which is a mandatory shock absorption and penetration standard, further to this, the product comes complete with a 6-point harness to connect around the users chin which makes this product PERFECT for working at height.
This product only comes with the option to have a wheel ratchet on the back as a pose to the more common slip ratchet adjustment. In my opinion a wheel ratchet is far better option as it allows for a more precise fit for the user which will inevitably decrease the risk of your hard hat falling off.
