When we are purchasing PPE this is an area which is so easy to overlook, it is fine to look for a product that is the exact style you would like and the correct fit for you but have you considered that the two products you are about to use are not compatible with each other and in fact are you hindering the overall performance?

If you have purchased a hard hat from one manufacturer and an ear defender from another this may fit due to universal slots being designed to the hard hats but what you may be doing is compromising the performance of your ear defenders which could have dramatic effects if you require a specific SNR rated ear defender for a particular environment of noise.
Both the helmet and the ear defenders should be CE-marked – a legal requirement for any item of personal protective equipment (PPE) offered for sale within the EU. This mark can be applied if the PPE can been shown to comply with all applicable basic health and safety requirements (BHSRs) of the PPE Directive 89/686/EEC. One of those BHSRs covers compatibility of different types of PPE when worn together, so that the fit and/or function of one type is not affected by using or wearing the other.
Compatibility also carries over to other areas of PPE other than hard hats and ear defenders, you must ensure that your eye protection and respiratory products are also fitting correctly all together, and that performance is not hindered.

Fellow Distributors will generally offer a range of product types. If you select products from different manufactures, rather than from the same manufacturer, make sure you check that the ear defenders have been tested on the specific make and model of helmet with which you plan to use them, and that they have been certified for use together.
